Center for integration of people with disabilities

Location Sofia
Year of design 2017
Year of completion 2019
Total built area 890 sq.m

The project for the Center for Integration of Disadvantaged People aims to give a new start in the lives of people with missing limbs. It is designed to support their integration into society by creating a favorable environment that inspires them to overcome the difficulties in their lives, to live fully.

The center will perform examinations and consultations of patients with missing limbs, who will be provided with individual prostheses according to their needs and will be trained to use them. A professional team will help individuals to acquire skills for independent living, social inclusion and coping with everyday life situations. They will work both on their physical development and on improving their mental state after the difficult moments of loss.

The center will be located in the villa zone Vrana-Lozen-Triangle in a quiet green area in the outskirts of Sofia.

The building has 2 floors. On the first floor there is a reception area, offices for consultation and measurement, prosthesis testing, a room for exercise in walking with direct access to the yard and work rooms for making high quality prostheses for limbs. On the second floor there are bedrooms for people who need a longer stay in the center, a living room to the bedrooms, a rehabilitation center with south-facing terraces and views of Vitosha Mountain.

The architecture of the building is minimalist. Its image is made up of clean shapes and volumes with alternating solid and glazed surfaces, following the internal logic of the building. The materials and surfaces used are limited in number in order to preserve the clean look of the architecture.
