The design team has come up with an integral concept for the urban development of the city centre of Sofia for a time period of 25-50 years.

Competition entry for the future development of the city centre of Sofia
The concept is based on the search for proposals related to the following issues:
- “The Living City”, the city where something happens
- nice and welcoming urban environment
- city for people instead of city for cars
- need for a new generation of urban infrastructure
- local identity in the globalized world
- overcoming of historical borders
- realization of “urban planners’ dreams”
- new generators of urban life
- platform for new urban planning competitions
Each one of the four competition zones has been developed according to a specific topic:
Zone 1 – Release (from the cars)
Zone 2 – Share (the public space)
Zone 3 – Tolerance (to the historical layers)
Zone 4 – Reload (with new urban life)
Despite the failure of the competition procedure, GRUPA CENTER continues to search for opportunities to realize some of the proposals from the competition.
